Posting every day without a plan is how most business accounts burn out. Planning the whole month in one sitting takes an afternoon and removes the daily "what do we post today?" stress. Here is the system.
Step 1: Choose three to five content pillars
Content pillars are the themes you post about again and again. They keep your feed varied and on-brand. For most businesses these work well:
- Show the work: results, projects, products, before and after
- Teach: tips, answers to common questions, mistakes to avoid
- Build trust: your team, your process, customer stories (with permission), reviews
- Offers: new services, seasonal offers, how to book
- Community: local events, festivals, people you work with
Step 2: Write ten ideas for each pillar
Do not start from a blank page. Good sources of ideas:
- Questions customers ask on WhatsApp, calls and in your shop
- Your Google reviews: what people praise is what to show more of
- The festival and seasonal calendar: Diwali, Holi, wedding season, exam season, monsoon
- What your competitors' audiences comment on
Step 3: Pick the right format for each idea
- Reels: reach new people; best for quick tips, behind the scenes and transformations
- Carousels: best for step-by-step tips, checklists and before-and-after sets; people save them
- Single images: offers, announcements, quotes from reviews
- Stories: daily updates, polls, questions, reminders of your offer
Step 4: Put it on a calendar
A simple weekly rhythm that works for most small businesses:
- Monday: a teaching carousel
- Wednesday: a reel showing the work
- Friday: a trust post: a review, a customer story or your team
- Weekend: an offer or community post
- Every day: two or three stories
Repeat for four weeks, and you have 16 posts without thinking about it daily.
Step 5: Create in batches
- One shoot day: film all the reels and take the photos for the month
- One editing day: edit, design carousels and write captions
- Captions: start with a hook, give the value, end with one clear action (save, share, message us)
- Hashtags: a few relevant ones, including your city, are enough
Step 6: Schedule and approve
Schedule posts in advance with Meta Business Suite, which is free for Facebook and Instagram. If someone else approves your content, share the month's plan a week before it starts.
Step 7: Review once a month
Look at Insights: which posts were saved, shared or brought messages? Do more of those next month and drop the formats that get nothing. Check when your followers are most active and post around those times.

Questions people ask
How many content pillars should a business have?
Three to five is enough. Fewer feels repetitive; more makes the feed unfocused and planning harder.
Should I post the same content on Facebook and Instagram?
Mostly yes, which saves time. Adjust captions and formats where needed, and check Insights on each platform to see what works where.
What is the best time to post?
It depends on your followers. Instagram and Facebook Insights show when your audience is most active; start there and compare results over a month.
