If people visit your website but nobody calls, messages or fills the form, the problem is usually not the traffic. It is that the site does not quickly tell visitors what you do, why they should trust you and how to contact you, especially on a phone. The good news is that most of these fixes are small, and you can check them yourself in an afternoon.

First, check that the visitors are the right people

Before changing the design, make sure the visitors could actually become customers. Open Google Search Console and look at the searches that bring people to your site. If a bakery in Pune gets most of its visits from people searching "cake recipe", those visitors were never going to order. If the searches look right but enquiries are still low, the fixes below are where to start. Our guide to setting up Google Search Console shows where to find this report.

1. Say what you do and where in the first screen

A visitor decides within a few seconds whether they are in the right place. The top of your home page, as seen on a phone, should answer three questions without scrolling:

  • What do you offer?
  • Where do you offer it?
  • What should I do next?

"Physiotherapy clinic in Indiranagar, Bengaluru. Book a home or clinic visit" works far better than "Welcome to our website" over a stock photo.

2. Put WhatsApp and call buttons where thumbs can reach them

Many Indian customers would rather send a WhatsApp message than fill a form. Add a clear WhatsApp button using a click-to-chat link (wa.me followed by your number with the country code), and a tap-to-call button. On phones, a small bar fixed to the bottom of the screen with both buttons is easy to use. Test both from your own phone to make sure they open the right number.

3. Make the form short

Every extra field gives people a reason to stop. For a first enquiry you usually need only:

  1. Name
  2. Phone number
  3. What they need (a short dropdown or one line of text)

Ask for address, budget and dates later, on the call. After someone submits, show a clear thank-you message that says when you will reply.

4. Fix the speed on mobile data

If the page takes too long to load on a phone, many visitors leave before they see anything. Large uncompressed photos, heavy sliders and too many plugins are the usual causes. Our post on why websites are slow on phones covers five fixes, and you can test your own pages with Google's free PageSpeed Insights.

5. Show proof that you are real

People are careful about who they pay, especially online. Add things that build trust:

  • Real photos of your shop, team or work, not only stock images
  • Google reviews, with the customer's first name if they agree
  • Your full address and a map, or the areas you serve
  • Years in business, certifications or associations you belong to, if true

6. Give each service its own page

If all your services sit in one long list, visitors and Google both struggle to understand them. A separate page for each main service lets you explain who it is for, what is included, how the process works and what to do next. It also gives you a better chance of appearing when people search for that exact service.

7. Answer the questions people ask before they call

Think about what customers ask on the phone every week: "Do you come to my area?", "How long does it take?", "Do you work on Sundays?", "Can I pay by UPI?". Answer these on the page. If you share starting prices, say so clearly; if you do not, explain what the price depends on. Fewer doubts mean more people are ready to contact you.

8. Track enquiries so you know what works

Without tracking, every change is a guess. Set up a free analytics tool such as Google Analytics and count form submissions, WhatsApp clicks and call clicks as key events. Then make one change at a time and watch the numbers for a few weeks. During busy seasons like Diwali or wedding season, compare with the same period rather than the month before.

A quick self-check

Open your website on your phone, on mobile data, and try to contact yourself as a new customer would. Note anything that slows you down: a slow page, a button that is hard to find, a form that asks too much or a WhatsApp link that does not open. Then ask a friend who has never seen the site to do the same and tell you honestly what confused them.

Questions people ask

How do I know how many people visit my website?

Google Search Console shows how many people find you through Google search, and a free analytics tool such as Google Analytics shows total visitors, where they come from and which pages they view.

Is a contact form or a WhatsApp button better?

Offer both. Many customers in India prefer WhatsApp because it is quick and familiar, while others prefer a form, especially outside working hours. Keep the form short and test that every button works on a phone.

Do I need a new website to get more enquiries?

Not always. Clear wording, contact buttons, a shorter form, real photos and faster pages can be added to most existing sites. A rebuild makes sense when the site is very slow, hard to update or does not work well on phones.
